Antiterrorism as a program focuses on preventative measures to achieve the goal to ensure that our personnel and facilities operate in a secure environment. Commander Navy Region Southwest's Antiterrorism department consists of dedicated professionals both at the Region level and the Installation level.

Through planning and cooperation with federal, local and other military branches our mission of a safe operating environment is met. In providing a pivotal Security Force and delivering preventative measures this mission is accomplished. In unavoidable situations, the ability to respond to terrorist attack rounds out the scope of our mission.

The capability of the Antiterrorism organization rests with the Regional Antiterrorism Officer (ATO), his staff of Antiterrorism Security Specialists, a designated ATO at each of CNRSW's installations. Through dedicated hard work, this group conducts assessments, exercises it's capability regarding protecting personnel and facilities, monitors intelligence reporting, facilitates higher headquarters assessments and review and overall is the primary advisor to the Commanding Officer in all Antiterrorism matters.

Antiterrorism policy is derived from Department of Defense (DOD) instructions and directives, Department of the Navy (DON) instructions and guidance set forth by Executive Agent for Antiterrorism, Commander United States Fleet Forces Command (CUSFFC). Through their direction and the implementation of Regional and installation planning, these policies are carried out.

The responsibility of the Regional Antiterrorism Department is to ensure that installations are kept up to date with higher headquarters requirements and standards. This is accomplished through regional meetings, assist visits to our installations and constant contact with the installation ATO. We support the Installation Commanding Officer (ICO) in their effort to provide a safe environment for all tenant commands, personnel and facilities under their Area of Responsibility (AOR). The Regional ATO, through his Chain of Command is responsible to the Commander Navy Region Southwest for all matters relating to Antiterrorism.
